Do I need to book before dropping off scrap metal?

No. Most standard drop-offs can be brought in during opening hours. Contact us first for large loads, unusual items, commercial pickup requests, or batteries you are unsure about.

Does Scrap Mart pay instantly?

Yes. Once accepted material is weighed and graded, we pay you the same day by cash or bank transfer.

Yes. Businesses with regular volumes can contact us about commercial scrap recycling, regular drop-off and suitable collection options.

Is there a minimum scrap metal load?

No minimum. Whether you have a single copper tap or a full trailer load, drive straight in. We weigh and pay on every visit.

Are you open to the public?

Yes. No appointment is required. Visit during opening hours, and our team will help you unload, weigh and process your metal. Get directions to your nearest yard, and you can find our opening hours on Google or at the bottom of this page.

No. Lithium Batteries are not accepted.

Does Scrap Mart sell used car batteries?

How does Scrap Mart recycle lead-acid batteries?

Through responsible, sustainable channels. Scrap Mart holds international hazardous export permits issued by the Environmental Protection Authority of New Zealand, in line with the Basel Convention.

Can Scrap Mart collect my scrap metal?

What should I send for a collection enquiry?

Use Get A Quote and send us photos of the material, along with the type, an estimated quantity or weight, the pickup address and access details. Our team will review it and come back to you with the next step.

Will I get charged for you to accept my old or broken whiteware appliances?

No. We do not charge anything for whiteware drop-off.

Scrap Mart pays for accepted material instantly, by cash or bank transfer, on the same day, after weighing and grading.

Do I need ID to sell scrap metal?

Yes. A valid New Zealand driver licence, passport or proof of age (NZ 18+ card) is required to sell scrap metal, and this is required by law under the Pawnbrokers Act. We are licensed second-hand dealers under the Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 2004 and must record ID for every seller.

Can I get a quote from photos?

Yes. Use Get A Quote and upload your photos. Our team will guide you on price and details. The final price is confirmed only after weighing and grading at the yard.
